Virtual OffiCenters, 2013 winner of Global Workspace Association’s “Most Innovative Workspace” award, provides office space for any kind of business. “We get everything from attorneys to CPAs,” says owner Lori Spiess. “We get people who just find it hard to work at home, or want to work with peers.”
The programs Virtual OffiCenters offers are popular and getting more so all the time. “Ninety percent of businesses being founded these days are microbusinesses,” Spiess says. “Some of them only have a handful of employees, and they do all kinds of work at different times and in different places. People need flexibility.”
Virtual OffiCenters provides this flexibility with a wide variety of programs meant to suit any particular need a business may have. “You can scale up your office hours or scale back as needed,” Spiess says. “You can rent by the hour, or buy permanent space. You can work from any of our 5 locations. You choose what is most convenient for you. Your business gets what it needs, when it needs it.”
Spiess started her company in St. Louis Park in 1981. That first office center is still here and was just completely overhauled; it’s now 23,000 square feet of brand new space with amenities like a cyber café and a large training center.
Virtual OffiCenters hosts a free informal meet-and-greet with complementary food and coffee from 9:00–10:30 a.m. on the first Thursday of every month. “Bring a lot of business cards,” Spiess advises.
