Spin Your Wheels Indoors and Out

Surge Cycling grand opening in St. Louis Park; AAA Minneapolis to offer new bike pick-up service to members

I’m a big fan of cycling, both indoor and outdoor.  I’ve been taking indoor cycling classes for probably five years now, usually twice a week.  I still remember the very first class I ever took – about midway through the class, I knew I had to somehow get myself off that bike (before I fell off), head to the locker room and put my head between my knees so I wouldn’t pass out. So that’s what I did: I stayed in the locker room for about 5 minutes, and then headed back to finish the class. It was definitely challenging, but I knew I was on to something. I love everything about indoor cycling. It’s a great cardio workout, you can push yourself as hard as you want, and without a doubt, the music keeps you going, even up those “hills” – and believe me, they are real! Whether you are new to the sport or want to consider a new indoor cycling spot, head over to Surge Cycling on Sunday, June 23 for their grand opening celebration from 1-4 p.m. Located at 5601 Wayzata Boulevard, Surge is a dedicated indoor cycling center – that’s all they do and they do it well. You can meet owner Ken Anderson and  his team of instructors (whom he also calls “wicked good DJs” when it comes to putting their all-important class playlists together) and check out the state-of-the-art Keiser M3 Plus Indoor Cycles. Food for the party will be provided by Manny’s. For more information, visit Surge Cycling on Facebook. Is there anything better than biking the Grand Rounds on a summer day?  And anything worse than your bike breaking down on the trail, miles from your car?  You’ll be happy to know that beginning on July 1, AAA Minneapolis can come to your emotional and biking rescue. If you’re a AAA member who becomes stranded while biking, contact AAA and they will come and pick both you and your bike up.  To kick off this valuable new service, there will be a free event at AAA Headquarters in St. Louis Park, 5400 Auto Club Way, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 29.  Activities include a 5K all ages ride (there’s a 1-mile option, too), a bike maintenance and safety demo, kids’ helmet fittings and a bike rodeo, along with prizes and giveaways.  For more information, call 952.927.2671 or contact jthurston@aaaminneapolis.com
