Jonny Rock Bikes owner Jonathan Minks stresses the importance of making bikes accessible to everyone, not just experienced road racers. With this in mind, Jonny Rock Bikes offers a wide selection of used bikes and parts for beginners looking for a more economical option, in addition to new models.
“We can offer a used tire for $5, as opposed to buying a new one for $30,” he says. “For those who are a little down and out, they can get to their house faster or maybe just get to the bus stop faster.”
The shop offers repairs and safety checks, a good idea for bikes purchased from larger chain stores. “You’ll see those ‘inexpensive’ bikes quickly becoming disposable bikes,” he says. In an effort to stay green, Jonny Rock Bikes also accepts donated bikes as a part of their recycling program.
This season, Minks says he’s seen the trend shift toward both hybrid “city” bikes and fat-tire bikes for adults. But for kids, mountain bikes remain the go-to. The most popular trails around St. Louis Park include the Greenway network and the Cedar Lake Trail.
