Hats—not the utilitarian stocking cap type you pull over your head in the winter, but couture hats made of fine fabrics—seem to be a thing of the past, seldom seen except during a British royal wedding or when watching vintage movies.
Milliner Celina Kane is changing that. Kane, who works out of her studio in the Northrup King building in Northeast Minneapolis, launched her business in 2015. Kane apprenticed with renowned master couture milliner Anya Caliendo.
Kane works with felt, straw, silk, velvet and other materials from sources around the world. Kane says she tries to source as sustainably as possible. Her hats are artful and fresh, with a touch of the classic.
You can find Kane and her creations at Mill City Farmers Market and at pop-up shops at boutiques, art and craft fairs, and at her studio, which is open by appointment, as well as for events such as Art-A-Whirl. Click on “Events” on Kane’s website to find upcoming open studio times and fairs, pop-ups, and other spots where Kane will be selling her irresistible creations.
